Warlord and Perry Miniatures produce sets for various nations. I've chosen to get American infantry for wargamming. To get the painting right, I decided to start with support weapons.

The Warlod set comes with 30 figures which doesn't give you a platoon and the Perry set has 45 figures. Both sets have multipart figures so you can vary the poses and weapons. I also obtained the support weapon set from Warlord. These are single complete figures. The set contains a 60mm mortar team, sniper and spotter and finally a flamethrower along with an assistant. Everything was painted using Lifecolor paints with a couple of Vallejo colours.

The 60mm mortar comes in three parts, the barrel and support.

There are operators, a loader, commander and ammunition carrier. I glued the gunner onto the base but left the other two removable.

The base came in the set. I covered it with filler with tile grout added. This was painted brown. When the figures were attached, I painted on some dilute Mod Podge glue and coated it with static grass. Blowing gently on it makes it stand up.

The flamethrower team is made up of two figures, the flamer and an assistant.

After gluing the figures onto the circular bases, some filler was applied before painting.

When the figures were painted, static grass was added.

The two man bazooka team comes from the infantry set. These have a core body with seperate arms and head.

The figures don't have small bases like the support set does, so were glued onto bases. Since the figures attach straight onto the base, filler wasn't used.

The static grass was glued straight to the plastic base after it had been painted brown.

The 30 calibre machine gun comes from the Perry Miniatures set.The gunners have seperate arms and heads. They don't go together as well as the Warlord figures, but are OK.

The bases were painted with PVA glue and 'chinchilla dust' stuck on before painting brown. The gun and ammo box was glued on before painting.

The figures were glued on before the static grass went on.

[CaptionLast up is the sniper team which come from the Warlord set. The sniper is armed with a Springfield rifle with scope. The spotter has a Garand.

The had filler applied. Before it was set, the figures were pressed into position and removed for painting.

I used longer static grass for these as I wanted to hide the figures a little.

I flattened the grass a little behind them as they would crawled into this position.
