I've been working on getting the main gun turrets filled and sanded. While giving the filler time to set, I decided to work on the rest of the armament.
As secondary armament, The Pola has six twin turrets armed with 100mm guns. Each turret is made of a base and gun shield. The guns are molded as a single piece which attaches to a pair of mounts, which glue onto the turret base.
I dry fitted the two mounts to the guns. This was then glued on to the base, and left to dry. When dry, the gun shield was glued to the base.
I'm not really worried about the guns being able to elevate, but they went together easily, and the guns will elevate.
The Master Models barrel set includes replacements for the 100mm guns, but the kit parts look OK and drilling the holes for them would be quite fiddly, so I decided to stay with kit parts.
The anti-aircraft armament is four twin 37mm turrets, each made of two parts.
The guns are a tight fit to the mounts, so can be pushed together, and tapped with the extra thin glue brush to secure.
After leaving the styrene filler on the funnel for a day or so, I sanded the joints until smooth. This was then glued to the superstructure. I clamped the funnel on to force some plastic out of the joint, thus filling it.
Over the space of a few days, the joints were filled and sanded. First, the join between the top and base of the turret was filled, and sanded. The wings were attached and the join filled with styrene. When this was set and sanded, the underside of the wings were filled with Vallejo Plastic Putty. This was sanded, and the surface soothed out with styrene filler.
The complete weapon fit.
Next job is to go through the instructions and make sure everything is ready for paint. I also need to decide how it's going to be based when finished so that I can drill any holes I need before painting.
