Recently Airfix released a new tool version of the Cromwell cruiser tank.
The Cromwell IV was the main version of the tank armed with a 75mm main gun. It was derived from the Mark III but with the 6pdr gun bored oiut to take American 75mm ammunition. It was powered by a Meteor engine which was derived from the Rolls Royce Merlin aircraft engine. Armoured reconnaisance regiments of armoured divisions were equipped with the Cromwell, with either 17pdr armed Sherman Fireflys or Challengers giving heavy anti-tank support. The standard tank regiments of the 7th Armoured Division were also equipped with the Cromwell.
Airfix have produced 2 version of the Cromwell, the Mark IV with the 75mm main gun and the close support Mark VI armed with a 95mm howitzer. Both vehicles are similar, the main external difference being the shorter gun in the Mark VI.
